The University of Bedfordshire has announced the appointment of Alice Hynes as its new Registrar following the retirement of Dr Jim Franklin this summer.
Alice, who will take up her role in September, is currently Chief Executive of GuildHE, one of the two national representative bodies for Higher Education institutions.
Her previous appointments have included Academic Registrar at Kingston University, Assistant Director at the Higher Education Quality Council/ QAA, Vice Principal (Administration) of Dartington College of Arts, a performing arts HEI in Devon and Director of University Projects at the University of Liverpool.
Although Alice has worked in Higher Education for more than 20 years she initially worked in the stock market and then for charities and in retail management. Her first job in Higher Education was supporting staff development work at the University of London.
Speaking about her new role, Alice said: “It is a serious time to be joining the University of Bedfordshire - I am looking forward very much to being part of its response to the challenges ahead and making sure we can continue to deliver an excellent student experience .
“I am excited and honoured to be working again with Professor Ebdon and delighted to be able to build further on the work of Dr Franklin. My experience inside diverse institutions, including the enormous amount I have learned from the GuildHE members and their staff, will serve me well when I join the University of Bedfordshire at the end of the summer.
“Meanwhile it is business as usual for the GuildHE Office and its professional attention to the important political and policy work of the next few months. Clearly the impact of the decisions of the new Coalition and the Browne Review will affect the University of Bedfordshire alongside all other universities and colleges and I will be glad to be part of framing its response.”
Alice is a Chartered Secretary, a Fellow of the RSA and a member of both the Association for Project Managers and the Institute of Leadership and Management. She studied English at the University of Exeter and an MA in Medieval Studies at Birbeck College London.
