Hard-working Year 11 students from Luton have been recognised in their attempts to improve their English.

They are to students, who are taking their GCSEs this year, from Luton schools and academies for whom English is a second or additional language.
The awards, in just their second year, are made by the Ouse Valley Branch of The English-Speaking Union.
Derek said: “The English language is universal and it’s not useful to master it, it’s crucial. Well done to all the students for their achievements.”
Joining Derek at Thursday’s presentation night at the Putteridge Bury campus was Dr Tony Wood, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Luton and chairman of the ESU Ouse Valley Branch. Roger Cornwell, who is vice-chairman of the ESU Ouse Valley Branch, compered the evening.

The 26 awards were shared between seven schools and academies and each youngster received a certificate and a cash award. There were two types of award.
