Kathryn Wolfe's book launch - Kathryn with Warren Mitchell

A Senior Lecturer in Media Performance and Course Leader TV Production at the University of Bedfordshire is sharing her knowledge next week.

During September, casting directory Spotlight - regarded as the bible of the entertainment business - is operating a series of industry seminars/networking opportunities as well as career advice one-on-ones with a Spotlight expert for all its presenter members.

The first seminar sees Kathryn Wolfe in discussion with John Byrne, careers advisor to The Stage newspaper, on Monday evening (13 September). The event is geared towards young Spotlight presenter members making their way in the business who will comprise the audience.

Kathryn said: “It will focus on the best ways to market yourself, gain experience and make those all-important industry contacts.”

Spotlight was founded in 1927 and has since become world famous for its casting directories. More than 35,000 performers now appear in Spotlight, including actors and actresses, child artists, presenters, dancers and stunt artists.

As the industry’s leading casting resource, Spotlight is used by most television, film, radio and theatrical companies throughout the UK, and many worldwide. Its clients range from large organisations such as the BBC, Sky and Channel 4 through to small production companies and individual casting directors.

Presenters who currently advertise in Spotlight include Sarah Beeny, Bruce Forsyth, Lauren Laverne, Jimmy Carr, Natasha Kaplinsky, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Claudia Winkleman, as well as a host of other entertainment, arts, science, sports, comedy and specialist presenters.

The second seminar during the month will be a question and answer session with long-standing television presenter Maggie Philbin (Inside Out, BBC Breakfast, Tomorrow's World and Swap Shop).

Kathryn herself launched a new book on television presenting back in May at The Actors Centre in London’s Covent Garden. So You Want To Be A TV Presenter? received some high-profile backing with the foreword by Chris Tarrant and a back cover quote by Tony Robinson of Blackadder and Time Team fame.
