The University Dance Company (UDC) has been showcasing the talents of its students in recent weeks.
This is the third year touring performance company of the BA (Hons) Dance and Professional Practice programme at the Bedford campus of the University of Bedfordshire.
Called Showcase and lasting for an hour, students have been touring pieces of dance repertory to venues in Bedford, Northampton and Luton this spring. They are assessed over the whole of the programme and not just one performance.
They were on home ground on April 3, which was also Mother’s Day this year, when they performed at the Campus Centre Theatre in Bedford.
A few days later they went to the University of Northampton, which was part of an exchange visit after their dancers performed in Bedford back in February.
The unusual setting of London Luton Airport provided the backdrop to a performance on Friday, 8 April, and their minor tour was completed at the hat Factory in Luton on the night of Thursday, 14 April.
Sian Pearce, the Community Relations Executive at London Luton Airport, said: “Thanks to everyone from the University who performed at the Airport and I would be more than happy to invite them back in the future.
“They were a lovely group of students, very professional and the dancing was brilliant. The performance was very well done and the students coped well performing in the busy Airport terminal, entertaining both passengers and staff.”
James Hewison, Senior Lecturer in Dance and Course Leader for Dance and Professional Practice, said: “It was a brilliant experience at the Airport. It was a very different audience and one in transition.
“The students were so focused despite all the distractions; we rolled out the dance floor and turned on the music and off we went!”
