Professionals from the animation industry came together at a special animation networking event at the University of Bedfordshire.
The M1 Animation Network was launched by the University’s BA (Hons) Animation Course, in partnership with the Foundation degree course in Animation for Industry at Bedford College.
The event also welcomed back several graduates who have found success working for animation companies like Northampton based RJDM, which is currently working on projects for Disney and Pixar, and global advertising agency AMV BBDO, which produced the latest Twinings television commercial.
BA (Hons) Animation Course Leader Mark Collington, said: “It was really exciting to have our graduates there. They are doing excellent things. They were excited to be there and they gave good feedback about how our animation courses prepared them for their careers.”
Guest speaker Mo Khalid, Managing Director of Luton based Inspire Media Entertainment, shared his experiences of pitching animation concepts to broadcast networks such as Nickelodeon. Guests also got a sneak peak of alumnus Chris Butcher’s latest project, which has been entered for the Red Bull Canimation Competition.
Chris was one of six winners of the Barbican Ideas Tap award back in September with his stop-motion film, Rewind.
Mark said: “The idea behind the M1 Animation Network is to promote, and where possible, retain animation graduates within the region. We intend to develop a vibrant regional animation hub, working closely with SMEs sharing resources and expertise.”
The network also aims to develop links between animation enterprises on and around the M1 corridor, from North London to Milton Keynes and Northampton.
