Andrew Bentley, Chair of the Board of Governors of the University of Bedfordshire, has stepped down after six years and completing two terms of office.
Andrew is founder and CEO of LP33, a video- based music entertainment company based in Los Angeles, Beijing and London. He is also the founder of Saffron Digital (now part of HTC in Taiwan) and was the former President of Electrolux International AB.
He is succeeded as Chair by Alan Cook CBE.
Announcing his retirement Andrew said: “It’s been an incredible journey and a very rewarding six years. It’s a great team at the University and has been a privilege to work with such as an accomplished Vice Chancellor as Les. It is very comforting to see that the transformation that has occurred at the University is now so widely recognised.”
The Board of Governors is responsible for overseeing the University's activities, determining its future direction, ensuring its solvency and the effective use of its resources.
The Board takes the final decisions on all matters of fundamental concern to the University, as well as having ultimate responsibility for ensuring that it complies with all its legal and regulatory obligations. Under Andrew’s Chairmanship, the University was successfully rebranded from the University of Luton to the University of Bedfordshire.
Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE DL, also a member of the Board said: “Andrew has taken a genuine interest in the University and is committed to putting students first.
“He has taken a huge interest in the estate and guided us through our investment programme stage by stage leaving a permanent legacy. I have valued his guidance and support. Being a Vice Chancellor can be a lonely job and Andrew has always been a critical friend and great supporter.”
Alan Cook is currently Chairman of the Highways Agency, Chairman of the Irish Life and Permanent Group Holdings in Dublin and Chairman of the charity ‘Action for ME’. He is also a Non- Executive Director of the Department for Transport and a Non- Executive Director of Sainsbury’s Bank.
