A research expert in cryobiology will be saying goodbye to the University of Bedfordshire after 20 years.
Professor Tiantian Zhang, who is the Director of the Institute of Research in the Applied Natural Sciences (LIRANS), will be leaving in January to become the new Head of the Graduate School at Bournemouth University.
Tiantian said: “I am thrilled about this opportunity. Student experience is at the heart of everything we do and I am very passionate about it. I am looking forward to developing a strategy to enhance the postgraduate student experience and implementing it.”
Tiantian first came to the University in 1991 when it was the Luton College of Higher Education, and was the first student of the University of Luton to be awarded a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy). She became the Director of LIRANS in 2008.
“I have enjoyed doing my cryobiology research as it is important for conservation, aquaculture and biomedicine. A highlight for me was when I became a professor in 2005. I have also enjoyed supervising my research students. They deserve the best and I have always tried to provide the best support I can to them,” she added.
Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts. Technologies and Science (CATS), Professor James Crabbe, said: ”It has been a great pleasure to work with Tiantian; her research in cryobiology is very well regarded internationally, and as Research Director of one of our research institutes, she has been an excellent leader in taking our research to new levels. We will miss her great professionalism as well as her considerable charm.”
Bournemouth University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Research, Enterprise and Internationalisation Professor Matthew Bennett said: “We are delighted that Tiantian will be joining us in the New Year as our Head of Graduate School.”
