Gemma Hunt and Media Performance students

Children’s TV presenter and Bedfordshire graduate Gemma Hunt returned to the University to share her experiences with future stars of the screen.

Gemma, who graduated from the University in 2003, shared her feedback as second year Media Performance students rehearsed using an autocue to present news.

Gemma said: “Having had experience in the industry, I can notice things like body language and posture, and hopefully iron out any bad habits. You really don’t get a chance to get feedback like this on the job so I hope my advice will help them.”

Having found success working as a presenter on CBBC, Gemma felt the Media Performance course helped her get a good idea of what it was like in the industry, and gave her solid grounding to help her achieve her goals.

Gemma said: “This course is fantastic as you get good experience in a professional studio and you are trained in a professional manner. It will give them the edge over anyone else when they start looking for jobs.”

Senior lecturer for Media Performance Kathryn Wolfe said: “It was great to have Gemma Hunt deliver the masterclass to our students as she is the perfect role model – a Bedfordshire Media Performance graduate and a successful CBBC TV Presenter. The students really appreciated and enjoyed the session and they took on board the useful hints and tips that Gemma gave them. Their excitement was clear to see.”

Feedback from students showed that Gemma’s masterclass hit the spot. Amber Gross said: “I found the masterclass very interesting and helpful. It was very motivating, receiving advice from someone who has studied at the same university and done the same course, and made a successful career within the business.”

Mica Elliott said: “I liked having Gemma Hunt with us as she was a part of this university and was successful from the course that I’m doing, which brings me hope that there’s a chance of finding work when I leave. She is also a friendly and down to earth person and is a good role model for people who want to be presenters.”
