Tue 6th December, 2011
Held in collaboration with Bedford Borough Council, the evening was designed as a myth busting evening on student finance.
The audience heard from Ruth Wilkes, Head of School Improvement at the Council, Lucy Marwood from Student Finance England and keynote speaker, the University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE DL.
Head of Student Recruitment, Lal Joshi led an open session with a group of current University students who spoke and answered questions from the audience. Emma, Chris, Nina and Rachel were on hand to talk about a variety of subjects, and answered questions about their experience of university life and student finance.
Professor Ebdon said: “We hope that the evening really helped parents, students and advisors realise that studying for the degree you need to get the job you want remains one of the best career moves that you can make.
“Here at Bedfordshire we offer strong student support as well, whatever the background of each student. For instance, some 88 per cent of our students benefited from a scholarship or bursary last year.”
Lal said: “The whole evening went really well - it seemed as if everyone enjoyed it and found it worthwhile. We set out to clear up any confusion about student finance and I think the local community really appreciated it.
“We hope this evening can become a regular feature in Bedfordshire’s calendar. We want to keep on ensuring that those interested in going to university are aware of the application process, what the funding means in real terms, and how they can make the right choice about higher education.”Latest news» 2011» December» Crowds flock to student finance myth busting event
