Live music magazine

TV Production students from the University of Bedfordshire put their skills into practice, under the guidance of a directing pro.

TV director Gerard Maquire used his extensive experience of working on shows like The Bill, Casualty and Coronation Street to help the second year students film their own live music magazine in the University’s state-of-the-art TV studio.

Gerard said: “The value of this workshop is that it lets students expand their learning and take a direction they have not explored before. They get an opportunity to enhance their skills and an awareness of the TV entertainment world. The module provides real development for them to explore skills that are particularly valuable in working studios.”

The students filmed a musician performing live, using multi camera production techniques as part of the TV production and performance module.

Gerard said: “The students learn that they can work with music without being ‘musical’. They learn a particular set of skills that many institutions would love to offer but are not able to in proper multi-camera studio music production.”
