The University of Bedfordshire Theatre is hosting Youth Dance England’s regional youth dance platform later this month.
In Actuate 2011 ... part of U.Dance, the University and East Youth Dance are providing young dancers from across the eastern region with the chance to perform at the professional working theatre at the Bedford campus on Saturday, 26 February.
More than 100 young people will spend the day at the University rehearsing and participating in workshops and seminars before performing to a paying audience in the evening.
The groups were chosen by a selection panel which included a quartet of the University’s final year Dance and Professional Practice students – Jade Cayton, Meghan Bailey, Emma Lansley and Kirsty Russell – along with dance practitioners and Sophie Cryer who is Youth Dance Co‑ordinator (East).
Sophie said: “The panel had the difficult task of choosing the groups and the final selection reflects the excellent work that is being done throughout the east.
“The University’s dance students play a vital part in the platform and it wouldn’t be possible without their help and support. They are an integral part to all aspects of the day, from being members of the selection panel, chaperoning groups around on the day, helping with the backstage running of the evening show and delivering some of the workshops and classes.
“It is really important to expose the young dancers to lots of different people following different career paths within dance, which is why having the University and its students involved is so crucial to the success of Actuate. We are incredibly thankful for their support and generosity in making this event possible.”
