CTU launch - Isabella McMurray, Ian Robertson and Pat Roberts

The Department of Psychology’s Consultancy and Training Unit (CTU) opened its doors at a special launch at the University of Bedfordshire’s new £34m Campus Centre in Luton.

The CTU is offering its expertise to the wider community through specially designed workshops which will run on a monthly basis throughout the academic year.

The launch was a packed event, with talks from the University's Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Professor Michael Preston-Shoot, and Head of Psychology, Dr Ian Robertson. Guest speaker Deborah Leedham came from Hertfordshire County Council and the launch also included a look at the CTU's website.

Dr Robertson was on hand to celebrate the launch. He said: “We’re delighted to be opening this consultancy and training unit to help enhance the personal and professional development of those in our wider community. It’s an exciting development for the Psychology Department and we’re looking forward to seeing some fantastic results.”

Led by the Psychology Department and co-ordinated by Dr Patricia Roberts and Isabella McMurray, the CTU is running a series of workshops and bespoke consultancy services which draw on a wide variety of expertise from within the department. These are open to researchers, academics, health and social services, local businesses and not-for-profit organisations, as well as individuals wishing to enhance their career prospects.

Isabella McMurray, Lecturer for the University’s Department of Psychology and CTU Consultant, said: “We have created a programme of workshops that are varied, interactive and practical. Our aim is to provide consultancy and training that is tailored specifically to the needs of the individual and the business.”

The CTU’s structured workshops are held on a monthly basis and cover the following areas: Thinking and Decision Making, Instructional Design, Analysing Data using Excel or the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), Coaching and Stress Management.
