University of Bedfordshire graduates are set to benefit from awards worth thousands of pounds - thanks to the generosity of Luton online games industry trainer Train2Game.
The online blended learning college has joined forces with the University by donating £22,500 for two awards.
The Graduate Of The Year Award (GOYA), worth £15,000, will be presented to an alumnus of the Department of Computer Science and Technology who can demonstrate the most outstanding career progression within five years of graduating from the University. There will be a runners-up prize of £7,500.
The awards will be judged by a panel of experts and presented at a special awards evening at the Putteridge Bury campus on 30 June.
University of Bedfordshire Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE, said: “The University is delighted to launch these awards and is thrilled that through Train2Game’s generosity our alumni are recognised for their achievements.”
A condition of the awards is that the winners must be able to attend the prize giving ceremony and donate half the prize money back to an area of support of their choosing within the University.
The GOYA was set up last year by Train2Game to demonstrate that study and hard work can bring rewards. The winner was Andrea Donafee who studied a PhD in Computational Group Theory in 2003 before taking a post as an analyst for Cash Management Systems Ltd. She is now the Managing Director.
This year’s awards are being funded through Train2Game which offers applicants the chance to qualify as a Game Designer, Game Developer or Game Artist and Animator with a TIGA Diploma. TIGA is the independent awarding and examination body for the blended learning courses.
A Train2Game spokesperson said: “We are proud and delighted to launch this year’s GOYA and to be working with the University in identifying talent and rewarding it. But we also believe in giving back to the University which is why it is a condition of the award that winners donate to their chosen area of support.”
