Nearly 10,000 candidates applied to the University of Bedfordshire by mid-December - a 24 per cent rise compared to the same period last year.
The news comes as official figures from UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) show an unprecedented 344,064 candidates completed applications by mid-December – compared to 335,795 last year.
Some 9,674 candidates applied to the University for the same period – 1,879 more than this time last year - with more women than men applying and an increase in 18 year olds and those over 23.
University of Bedfordshire Head of UK/EU Admissions Susie King said: “We have seen a much greater increase in applications than that seen by UCAS with nursing, social work, social studies, maths and computing proving very popular.
“Last year was a record year for us with applications up 54 per cent but the signs are that this year the figures could go even higher.”
Candidates still have until 15 January to apply. The University is staging open days for postgraduate, part-time and continuing professional development programmes on 19 January in Luton and 20 January in Bedford, from 6pm to 8pm. For more information visit http://www.beds.ac.uk/
