Local careers advisors were given a unique learning opportunity at a Professional Practice Day hosted by the University of Bedfordshire in Luton.
The event was focussed on Higher Education guidance locally and was organised by the University’s Recruitment Team and Luton Borough Council.
The day of talks was led by the University Careers and Employment Service, with a keynote address from Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Mary Malcolm, on ‘The future of Higher Education – what it means for the next generation’.
The careers specialists spent time discussing current issues and were also given the chance to see some of the high-quality facilities at the University during a campus tour.
Head of Careers and Employment Service, Mark Diggle, also spoke about how the University is enhancing student employability and Eileen Scott, Employability Projects Co-ordinator provided examples of local student progression.
Pete Smillie, Careers Education Consultant at Luton Borough Council and co-organiser of the event said: “High quality careers education and guidance is vital to equip and support young people to understand the opportunities available to them.
“I was really pleased to have worked together with colleagues from the University in organising this event to raise awareness about changes in higher education and the opportunities available locally for young people and adults to access.
Head of Student Recruitment, Lal Joshi added: “It was great to work alongside Luton Borough Council to provide guidance for our local careers experts and support the fantastic work they do in our community.”
