Media Production student Rob Geary was on air as a radio volunteer at the star-studded Glastonbury Festival last week after winning a national competition.

Rob, who is due to graduate on July 21st from the University of Bedfordshire in Luton, was one of four winners selected for a sought-after work experience stint at the festival’s radio station.

Rob, a manager for the University of Bedfordshire’s Radio LaB 97.1 FM, entered the competition several months ago by making a two-minute audio clip, complete with links and jingles. His reward was work experience on Worthy FM, which broadcasts live across the festival site during the festivities.

“It was the best ten days of my life – a fantastic experience,” said Rob. “I got to work with industry professionals from Bristol, London and Brighton, did a couple of radio shows and got to meet lots of celebrities.”

Rob was sent celebrity spotting for Worthy FM and got to track down a few stars, including Bono from U2, Friendly Fires’ Ed MacFarlane and Guy Garvey of Elbow.

Dr Janey Gordon, Radio LaB Project Leader, added: " I am enormously proud of Rob and to have him broadcasting live at such a famous and prestigious even is amazing.

“Rob is a student who takes every opportunity offered to him and really makes the most of It. He is a real testimony that the experience gained from broadcasting on Radio LaB  is giving our graduates the edge when it come to getting work in radio.  I am sure we will all be hearing Rob on air again soon!"
