Around 100 guests attended a special ceremony at the University of Bedfordshire Luton campus today (Tues) to celebrate the presentation of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2011.
Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire Sir Samuel Whitbread presented a glass rose bowl and certificate to Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE at the University’s new £34m Campus Centre.

He said: “I am pleased to present the Queen’s Award to the University of Bedfordshire for its outstanding achievement in increasing its overseas income by 154 per cent over three years. The Queen’s Award is one of the most prestigious awards for any business.”
Professor Ebdon said: “Winning any award is a team effort and there are many people at the University who have played their part in this achievement but I’d like to say a special thank you and pay particular tribute to our international team and my colleague here our Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Ashraf Jawaid.
“Professor Jawaid and his team have worked tirelessly to grow our international market. We believe that higher education should be borderless and that the 21st century job market is a global one. That is why the University of Bedfordshire is proud to be a truly, international university with a third of our students coming from overseas and representing more than 100 countries.

“It is this significant growth in numbers which was instrumental in us winning the Queen’s Award and I am delighted that this success in international trade has received Royal recognition. I’m also delighted that the whole University has been able to celebrate this achievement on graduation day when many of our graduands can also share in the occasion.”
