Hundreds of University of Bedfordshire students celebrated a special milestone at graduation ceremonies at the Luton campus last week.
All four of the University’s faculties – Creative Arts, Technologies and Science (CATS), the Business School (UBBS), Education, Sport and Tourism (EST) and Health and Social Sciences (HSS) – were represented during the ceremonies at the Grade 1 listed building St Mary’s Parish Church last week.
A number of honorary degrees were also awarded over the four days. They included John David Caudwell, former Chief Executive of Phones 4 U who is now Chairman and Founder of the charity Caudwell Children, Lionel Barber, editor of the Financial Times and Partha Dey, the Luton businessman who recently climbed Mount Everest.
More than 600 students attended nine graduation ceremonies between Tuesday and Friday (19-22 July). The celebration for the civic ceremony included a procession through the town centre led by the award-winning University Pipe Band.
The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Les Ebdon CBE, said: “Our students have worked incredibly hard to get this far and I congratulate each and every one of them for remaining focused and dedicated throughout.
“It is always a privilege to take part in graduation and celebrate the success of our graduates. Each student makes a unique contribution to the University and the graduation ceremony recognises that in a special way.”

Others who
were awarded honorary degrees include:
The University's own Head of Student Recruitment, Lal Joshi, was also awarded his Executive Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at a ceremony on Wednesday. He said: "I did the MBA part-time alongside my very busy role in student recruitment which was hard work, but sharing the ceremony with my family and colleagues was really special."
