Student visitors from Belgium and Holland

Student teachers from Belgium and Holland saw the British education system at work during a visit to the University of Bedfordshire.

As well as touring the University’s Bedford campus the 29 students spent time at primary and secondary schools in the local area.

The visit was organised by Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education Sport and Tourism Paul Davies. It is the first time visitors from Belgium and Holland have come to the University.

Paul Davies, who is responsible for teacher training, said: “We were delighted to welcome this group of student teachers who are mainly in their third year of training.

“The trip gave them the chance to visit primary and secondary schools in the area and gain a real insight into British education at work. We are grateful to the schools that put in additional time and effort to make this such a successful visit.”

The students were from the University of Applied Science in Zwolle, Holland and the University of Kaho Sint-Lieven in Belgium.

Student teacher Willeke Hornsveld said: “It was a really interesting visit. I was impressed by the University and the primary school I visited. Al the pupils were well behaved and listened. They were really focused.”

Hans Drost, one of the tutors from Holland, said: “The students enjoyed their visit and we are looking at plans to host a similar visit at our schools and university.”

Plans are underway for a similar visit in the future.
