A crack team of students from the University of Bedfordshire’s partner institution, the British School of Osteopathy (BSO), tossed aside all competition on Shrove Tuesday.
They seized victory in the fifth annual Better Bankside Pancake Day Race which was held beside Southwark Cathedral on Tuesday (8 March) lunchtime.
Mike Fatica, Donal O’Reilly, Oliver Eaton and George Dimitradis (pictured) beat off 24 other teams from local organisations and businesses, including a ‘sister’ team of BSO staff members who had all paid entry donations going to local charity Paintings In Hospitals to join in the fun.
Egged on by BSO colleagues, the staff team of Anna Somerset, Sarah Kahn, Sarah Matthews and Elizabeth Carter sadly did not survive the initial heats.
There was also a BSO information stand at the event, at the invitation of organisers Better Bankside, via which several valuable new contacts were made.
With weather conditions fine if windy, the BSO student team’s ace pan skills carried them to first place, winning themselves a fine engraved trophy created for the competition by Bermondsey-based London Glassblowing.
