It was agreed – the first partnership consultation event at the University since the Education White Paper was an outstanding success.
University staff joined headteachers and other teaching staff from Beds, Central Beds, Luton, Milton Keynes and Peterborough, plus members of the Training and Development Agency (TDA), to discuss a variety of educational issues.
The day in January, called Working Together in Partnership: Moving forward meeting future needs, attracted more than 65 people to the Bedford campus along with a dozen University staff.
Director of Partnerships (for schools and settings) at the University, Margaret Rosamond, said: “It was unanimously agreed that it was a success and a really worthwhile event.”

After an introduction by Paul Davies, the Associate Dean in the Faculty of Education, Sport and Tourism, James Birkett (Partnership Cluster Manager, Central Bedfordshire) and Kiersten Best (Assistant Headteacher at St Paul’s Catholic School) also spoke.
Five discussion groups in the morning raised issues including Recruitment into Initial Teacher Education (ITE), Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Models of Partnership and Quality Assurance.
Feedback included comments such as:

The afternoon geographical cluster group sessions provoked further discussion and a follow-up day has been planned for the summer term on Thursday, 9 June.
Contact jacque.holmes@beds.ac.uk if you are interested in attending the follow-up day.
