Staff and students from the University of Bedfordshire raised loadsamoney for Comic Relief in a variety of charity events.
A number of fundraising initiatives took place in both Bedford and Luton on or around the annual Red Nose Day on Friday (18 March).
Students arranged a charity dodgeball event last
Tuesday (15 March) evening at the Alexander Sports Centre in Bedford. More than 200 students played in a thrilling evening of dodgeball which raised nearly £350 in
aid of Comic Relief.
The 28 high-spirited
teams included some in fancy dress, backed by strong support from the sidelines. The two and a half
hour event was organised and run by Bedford Bulls head coach Martin Knight, who
is also the England Lions manager, and other club members.
The Bedford Bulls
dodgeballers train at the Alexander Sports Centre every Tuesday night from
8pm-10pm and all are welcome.

Residents and staff from one of the University’s Student Village in Luton had a Friday afternoon to remember as they went into a bath of beans!
Operations
Manager at the Student Village, Iain Wilson
(pictured top), and Student Resident Assistant Krasi Velchev bathed in the
beans over the course of the afternoon. The fundraiser was hosted by fellow
staff member Phil Nelson who was also in fancy dress for the occasion.
Iain and Krasi received encouragement by staff of the Student Village who were dressed in red wigs and helped to raise £480 by collecting donations and selling red noses.

Also in fancy dress was Paul Newbery (pictured right)
from the Graduation Office at Luton who
transformed himself into alter ego ‘Rosie’ for the day. Red Nose ‘Rosie’ raised
£273 for the Comic Relief coffers as he donned female attire and also had his
legs waxed in the Students’ Union.
Two offices from the faculty of Health and
Social Sciences raised a healthy £363.45 from a cake sale. They were C218 and
C220, both based in the main Park Square
building at Luton.
Another cake sale, this time supplemented by a book sale with games and a quiz, was organised by staff in the Psychology department on Thursday and Monday. This raised more than £300 as staff baked the cakes and the books were donated by Psychology staff and students along with some other University staff. The remaining books will be given to READ International and local charity shops.
