TV LaB management team

The special project for five TV Production level three students at the University of Bedfordshire is aiming to leave a legacy for others to enjoy.

The TV LaB 2011 is the brainchild of course leader Kathryn Wolfe and is the special project for five TV Production final year students who have formed a management team.

The five – Jodie Lockwood, Ram Krishna Tripathi, Carl Akkouh, Jonny Watson and Vaidotas Urbanavicius – are transmitting live from the TV studio at Luton on the penultimate day of term (Thursday, 14 April) next month.

Their three-hour awards show is based on the work of both current and former Bedfordshire students from the CATS (Creative Arts, Technologies and Science) faculty.

There are five categories for the best student work over the last couple of years – TV programme, music video, documentary, animation and short film – and the winner will be chosen from a shortlist.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Les Ebdon CBE, will launch the show at midday and it will also feature interviews with the five winners and pre-recorded interviews with relevant lecturers. The show will be shown on the internet and around the University via its digital signage.

Jodie, who is the production manager, and her team were chosen from a class of 22 to launch this exciting new project. They will be recruiting student volunteers via the University’s Careers and Employment Service.

Brunch (presenters Dennie Morris and Suriya Bala)

Two guest presenters, Dennie Morris and Suriya Bala, have been recruited and the pair have previously taken part in a show at the University called Brunch. Click here.

Jodie said: “We want it to be valuable experience for everyone involved and we hope it will continue year on year and eventually become like Radio LaB. It’s University branded like the community radio station is and we’re receiving website training to be consistent in style with the University’s official website.

“In future years, all of the technical issues should be resolved and it will be just about the actual show’s content.”
