Applications to the University of Bedfordshire continue to rise with more than 18,000 hopeful students trying to secure a place this year – a rise of 14.5 per cent on last year.

The news follows the publication of figures released by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) yesterday (Mon) that show some 618,116 people have submitted applications to higher education institutions, up 2.2 per cent.

The most recent figures show that 18,205 people have applied to the University of Bedfordshire and applications continue to be processed.

Head of UK and EU Admissions Susie King said: “We’ve seen a 20 per cent increase in the number of 18 year-olds applying to us. The number of male applicants is up nearly 14 per cent and we’ve seen a rise of almost 17 per cent in female applicants.

“We are known for our high quality teaching and there is a real demand for places on our nursing, social work and teacher training courses. We have received some very strong applications and are making offers all the time.”

Applications are still welcome. If you are interested in postgraduate or part-time study the University is holding special open events on Wednesday, 6 April (5pm to 7pm) in Luton and on Thursday, 7 April at Bedford (5pm to 7pm). For more information about open evenings visit www.beds.ac.uk
