University students attending Go Green Week at Luton campus

The University of Bedfordshire’s Students’ Union (UBSU) recently hosted a Go Green Week at the Bedford and Luton campuses.

Displays were made out of recycled materials, with different green themes each day. These included, Meat Free Monday, Travel Light Tuesday, Waste Not Wednesday, Switch-off Thursday and Get Involved Friday. Each day, the displays were refreshed with facts and figures relating to the day’s theme.

At the Luton event, Luton Borough Council attended and hosted a stall promoted how students can be more environmentally aware in the local community.

The Students’ Union also held a charity Read-in all week, consisting of a book sale, cake sale and a Krispy Crème donut sale. A total of £688.11 was raised for charity.

New SU president Lyndsay Murphy

Lyndsay Murphy, President, University of Bedfordshire Students’ Union said, “It was a great week and many students and staff engaged with the activities and displays.

“The event helped to get the message across that just doing simple things can help toward being environmentally friendly and saving the planet."

Tomorrow (Saturday, 26 March), UBSU is teaming up with Campus Living, which manages the University’s student accommodation estate, to participate in Earth Hour. All students and University staff are invited to the UBSU in the Campus Centre at Luton to find out more about Earth Hour 2011.
