Four talented students at the University of Bedfordshire have received the inaugural Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships of up to £10,000 each.
The first Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships were presented at an awards ceremony at the University’s Putteridge Bury campus on Tuesday, 17 May.
The scholarships will be awarded each year to one exceptional student from each of the University’s faculties – Education, Sport and Tourism (EST), Health and Social Sciences (HSS), Creative Arts, Technologies and Science (CATS) and the Business School.
The first award winners were Gary Parker from EST, Cordelia Sutton from HSS, Kaybie Won from CATS and Alin Dobrea from the Business School.
The scholarships are for students who are talented and gifted within their chosen subject area and each award is worth up to £10,000 which is to be used to cover the cost of tuition fees.

Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE presented the awards personally and said: “The University is known to have one of the most generous scholarship and bursary schemes in the country and we’re delighted to award these scholarships to such talented students.”
Applications were submitted by a deadline and the Dean of each Faculty had the task of recommending a suitable candidate to the Vice Chancellor who then had the final decision.
Students who attend the University of Bedfordshire can be confident of enhanced job prospects, excellent teaching, generous financial support and access to first-rate facilities. The University also recently won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise which is the most prestigious corporate award that any UK business can win.
