Experts from the University of Bedfordshire’s new Centre for Leadership Innovation (CLI) have contributed to The Munro Review – a major national review of child protection.
The Munro Review was commissioned by Education Secretary Michael Gove as part of a national drive to improve the quality of child protection services.
William Tate, Fellow of the Centre for Leadership Innovation, has been working closely with Professor Eileen Munro of the London School of Economics and Political Science, who has led the Review, advising on leadership aspects and implementation implications.
William is
also Director of The Institute for Systemic Leadership, which provides innovative
leadership advice and resources to support the Munro review and other
applications in all sectors.
He said: “The changes recommended by the Munro Review are highly significant for children and families, and for the organisations that have a practical and legal safeguarding responsibility.

“These recommended changes can happen only through skilled, thoughtful and sensitive leadership that reflects on and adapts its own style, moving from a command-and-control model (as Professor Munro puts it) to one that is itself consistent with and models the new workplace culture, especially in how it helps introduce change.”
CLI co-director, Professor Stephen J. Perkins said: “Expert input to shape thought, policy and practice in 21st Century leadership is central to the Centre’s mission. CLI’s community of Fellows such as William Tate are pivotal in translating excellent research into transformative practice.”
Other University experts were consulted in a series of professional groups. Professor Ivor Gaber and Professor Jon Silverman were part of a sub-group consulted on ‘Media and Public Confidence’.
Professor Munro’s final report has just been published and the recommendations have been passed to the Government for its consideration.
