The Knowledge Hub, the University of Bedfordshire’s gateway to business, has recently completed its programme of helping businesses in the East of England in the Innovation Voucher scheme for 2010/11.
The scheme, which secures funding for small and medium enterprises and is run by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), provides up to £3,000 worth of one-to-one consultancy to help increase efficiency and profitability, to enable a business to make better-informed decisions, and to increase market share and create jobs.
A total of 12 businesses from Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Essex benefitted from the University’s assistance, coming from varying industries including Electronics, Travel, Transport, Manufacturing and Design. University departments involved in assisting with the Innovation Voucher delivery included Computing and Technology and INTOUR (the University’s Institute for Tourism Research).
Luton-based Ecostyle Ltd worked with the Knowledge Hub’s Innovation Director, Dr Wesley Randle to review ISO standards in a move towards certification.
Ecostyle Director Simon Hall said: “We are very pleased to have received the consultancy from the University of Bedfordshire, made possible by EEDA’s Innovation Voucher. We are currently planning to grow the company, and putting robust procedures in place is an essential element of our strategy.
The consultancy was delivered by Dr Wesley Randle, the Innovation Director at the University and we very impressed with his level of expertise and professionalism.”
Veronica Rigby, Consultancy Manger at the Knowledge Hub, added: “In total the University has supported 22 companies across three phases of the scheme, and this initiative has provided an excellent platform for businesses in the region to access the University’s expertise to address real business issues.”
