More than 60 first year computing students from Milton Keynes College visited the University of Bedfordshire’s Luton campus recently (10 May).
The fact finding visit was designed to help the students decide whether to take the next step and apply to university.
The visit was hosted by the University’s Student Recruitment Team and featured a tour of the campus facilities followed by demonstrations of various computing courses available.
The trip was rounded off with a questions and answers session with some of the University’s Student Ambassadors. At this final session the visitors asked various questions about student life, the social scene in and around the University, plus the benefits of living in halls of residence.
Reflecting on the visit, Milton Keynes student Risanth Maheswarah said: “I now recognise the links between the course I’m currently studying and computing courses offered at the University. I really enjoyed the computer programming session and would be interested in applying for that course.”
Another Milton Keynes student, Jack Norris, added: I didn’t really know what to expect when I arrived today. The trip has been a good opportunity to see what further study has to offer me. I’m mostly interested in computer systems engineering, but today’s visit has made me more interested in studying computer games development courses at university.”
Paul Dibley, Senior Tutor at Milton Keynes College was also pleased with the visit. He said: “I see these valuable visits as an enrichment trip – many college students are thinking about applying to university but not sure if it’s for them.
“Today’s visit confirmed many of these students’ aspirations that they do want to go to university. Students have told me they think the teaching facilities at Bedfordshire are great and they now want to come and study here.”
The University’s
Student Recruitment Team will be hosting more school and college taster days
