Busy entrepreneur bags top award

Ben Hodson with his Future 100 award

Tue 29th November, 2011

A busy postgraduate student and entrepreneur from the University of Bedfordshire has scooped an award for his innovative business skills.

Art and Design student Ben Hodson received a Future 100 Award, which recognises young entrepreneurs who demonstrate entrepreneurial flair and innovation in setting up a responsible business venture.

Ben said: “I was really pleased to win the award. It is great when you work hard and people notice what you are doing. It is more than a one man show though. It was very much a team effort from everyone I work with.”

Heather Wilkinson, CEO of Striding Out, which organised the awards, said: “The Future 100 Awards aim to recognise the hard work and achievements of young entrepreneurs running a sustainable business that also benefits society and the environment through its operations.

“These individuals are an inspiration to their peers, and they demonstrate how resourceful young people can be to achieve business success even in the face of economic challenges.”

Ben is also the creative director for ATP Media, a one stop shop for creative media based in Luton’s Hat Factory. On top of this, he also lectures part-time at the University.

Ben believes that changes in attitudes to environmental and social issues within businesses will help his business grow.

He said: “There is a shift towards businesses being more socially and environmentally aware and I feel we are a part of that. Businesses are interested in the effect they have on the world, not just profit. It is good that awards like this recognise a shift in that direction.”

The University’s Head of Art and Design Colin Davies said: “I am so pleased for Ben as he really deserves this award. He reflects the strength and depth on the art and design postgraduate course at the University. His work reflects his character, he is inventive and always empathetic.”
