The University of Bedfordshire recently hosted a Bedford Choral Society Training Day at the Bedford campus.
The event saw nearly 100 singers attend from 18 different choirs from local communities in the North Beds and Milton Keynes area. It featured plenty of fun warm-ups and technical singing exercises followed by a study of Faure’s Requiem and some Russian and African folk songs.
Mike Brewer, Musical Director of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, led the event. Reflecting on the day he said: “It's been inspiring with representatives from some 18 choirs involved. The enthusiasm and response of all bears witness to the power of choral singing! Long may Bedford Choral prosper.”
Robert Manderson, from Bedford Choral Society added “I’d like to thank Mike for such a fantastic day, and also extend thanks to the University of Bedfordshire for the use of the Bedford campus. Finally, I’d like to thank all the singers who took part with such enthusiasm.”
Feedback from participants included: “The best thing about the day was it made me think about how to sing - a day wasn't long enough.” Another participant added; “Absolutely fantastic day, hard work but such fun, made even better with so much laughter.”
Bedford Choral Society, which is sponsored by the University, recently launched a new season of concerts at the Bedford Corn Exchange. A Charity Christmas Concert takes place on Saturday, 3 December from 7pm. Ticket prices range from £7 to £10 (free admission for accompanied children). Contact the Box Office on 01234 269519.
