Olympic Games organisers came to the University’s Luton and Bedford campuses in a recruitment drive for London 2012.

Representatives from The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and Luton based security firm A1 Security Services interviewed more than 300 students at the University’s campuses over two-days, who had applied for security and support roles at next year’s Games.

University Recruitment Services Manager, Priya Chauhan said: “The University is delighted to be involved in recruitment for London 2012. This is an opportunity for students to gain some work experience at a unique prestigious event.”

LOCOG members Eva Buckstegge and Dr Mark Rees spent a day at the Luton campus, where some 190 students were interviewed. Mark said: “It’s been exciting to see this event so well attended with Bedfordshire students prepared and ready to be interviewed for a security role at the Olympic Games. This is truly a once in a life opportunity and I’d like to thank everyone who has worked very hard in making this day a success.”

Elaine Quantrill and Hannah Ryan from A1 Security Services also helped with placement selection at the Luton campus event. Elaine said: “This is a really good initiative, enabling young people and students based in Bedfordshire to play their part at London 2012.”

Training has now started for the successful applicants.
