Rain can’t stop play for MK graduations

Five happy graduates

Thu 3rd November, 2011

The rain couldn’t dampen the smiles of success at the graduation ceremonies for the University of Bedfordshire in Milton Keynes.

It is only the second time that graduations have taken place in Milton Keynes and the two ceremonies attracted over 200 graduates to the modern venue of Christ the Cornerstone, the iconic church with a dome.

All the graduates had completed education courses, either having been taught at the University’s Bedford campus or at one of its partner colleges and training providers.

The education theme was maintained as Rob Badcock was awarded an Honorary Master of Arts in recognition of his outstanding contribution to education in the East of England.

Mr Badcock is local to Milton Keynes, having been Chief Executive of Milton Keynes ‘ManPower Forum’. In 2000, he joined Milton Keynes College and held the role of Principal and Chief Executive from 2003 until 2011.

Under his stewardship, the College grew to become a diverse community of over 20,000 students. He played a key role in the establishment of one of the University’s partner institutions, University Centre Milton Keynes in 2008, which gave the city and its residents access to local higher education.

The graduation ceremonies were held during half-term week to enable as many graduates as possible to attend. Post-ceremony celebrations took place at the UCMK.

Graduation ceremonies will take place at the Luton campus on 16,17 and 18 November at St Mary's Church.
