Student puts Bedfordshire in the fast lane

Omar Alketbi and his car

Wed 23rd November, 2011

Postgraduate student Omar Alketbi showed his passion for the University of Bedfordshire by having his car branded with the University’s logo.

Omar, who came to the UK from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to study a Masters in Applied Computing had his Nissan 350z decorated with stickers to promote the University on his travels.

Omar said: “The car looks amazing. I have had a great time here and I wanted to return the favour. I want to create awareness for the University, which is very important to me. If I didn’t think the University was so good, I wouldn’t have branded my car like this.”

Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise Professor Carsten Maple said: “I think this is a great way for a student to promote the University. It highlights that students are proud to come here and want to encourage others to have the same great experience that they have had. It is also fantastic that Omar wanted to give something back to the University after having such a wonderful time studying here.”

Deputy Vice Chancellor (External Relations) Professor Ashraf Jawaid said: “The thing I like about it is that it is mobile advertisement of the fantastic work we do here at the University. Most of our students are from a ten mile radius of the University. With the help of this car, we hope to increase the number of students that hear about us outside this region.”

If you spot Omar and his wheels out on the road, you can let the University know on Twitter at #seenthecar.
