The University of Bedfordshire has teamed up with Bedford Borough Council to host a myth busting evening for local students, parents, teachers and careers advisors.

Following on from the University’s own Student Finance Day in November, this county-wide event will be held at Bedford Corn Exchange on Monday, 5 December and runs from 6:45pm to 8:45pm. It is called ‘Student Finance – the real deal’.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Les Ebdon CBE DL, is speaking about the national student fee situation and there will be a talk on student life at the University of Bedfordshire from Head of Student Recruitment Lal Joshi.

Professor Ebdon said: “We hope to help parents, students and advisors realise that studying for the degree you need to get the job you want remains one of the best career moves that you can make.

“Here at Bedfordshire we offer strong student support as well, whatever the background of each student. For instance, some 88 per cent of our students benefited from a scholarship or bursary last year.”

Lal said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to give parents and students the vital information they need about finance and funding, and to quash a lot of myths and misconceptions that are out there.

“This is a unique event and we at the University felt that the local community wanted the facts about going to university. It’s about helping local parents to support their teenagers.”
