Tim Foster, Gail Emms and Elena Baltacha – just three, famous names from the world of sport who are due to attend the BBC East Sports Awards at the University of Bedfordshire’s Bedford campus on Thursday, 8 December.
Top sporting stars and unsung heroes will be honoured for their achievements at the event which will be hosted by BBC Look East presenter Stewart White at the University’s professionally-equipped theatre.
Tim was part of the ‘never to be forgotten’ Coxless Four alongside Redgrave, Pinsent and Cracknell who won gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. He was awarded an MBE afterwards. Gail, also an MBE, is a badminton former World Champion and Olympic silver medallist and Elena is the British No 1 tennis player.
BBC East Sports Awards producer Shaun Peel said: “It’s going to be a fantastic evening. The Red Bull Formula 1 racing car will be on display and Andrew Baggaley, the British No1 table tennis player, will be giving an exciting demonstration.
“These awards recognise the amazing efforts of the region’s Olympians and Paralympians, its biggest stars and its Unsung Heroes and we are really pleased to be at the University of Bedfordshire which has such a strong sporting heritage.”
Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE DL said: “We are delighted and excited to be working with the BBC on staging these awards. Our professionally-equipped theatre which seats 280 people will ensure the audience has a fantastic experience.”
