Tue 8th November, 2011
The University of Bedfordshire is holding an event at its Luton campus on Monday, 14 November 2011 as part of a national campaign dedicated to explaining the changes to student finance in England.
The event is taking place as part of Student Finance Day, which is coordinated by the Independent Task Force on Student Finance, headed by consumer campaigner Martin Lewis of MoneySavingExpert.com. The day will see universities, schools and colleges work together to ensure everyone understands the implications of the new student finance system in England from 2012.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE DL said: “Student Finance Day is an excellent opportunity to get the message across that university is still the best career move students will ever make. Here at Bedfordshire, we are committed to providing a transformational educational experience.
“We plan to get back to basics with this event and we’re keen to make sure that students and their families have all the information they need. We also want them to be aware of the support the University can offer so they make an informed decision about higher education and study.”
The event will be a series of information drop-in sessions held between 4 – 6pm on the third floor of the University’s new Campus Centre in Luton.
Lal Joshi, Head of Student Recruitment, said: “We’ve timed it so that people can just drop in after work and listen, ask questions and have all the information they need to hand.
“Lucy Marwood from Student Finance England will be on hand to explain the basics about student finance and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. Anne Chawk from the University’s Money Advice Team will be available to chat to as well.”
Useful information will be available at the event, including a student finance taskforce guide for students and details about the University’s scholarships and bursaries schemes.
Student Finance Day is the first national day of its kind and is being coordinated by the Independent Taskforce on Student Finance Information alongside the National Association of Student Money Advisers (NASMA) and the Higher Education Liaison Officers Association (HELOA).
