Thousands of new students at the University of Bedfordshire basked in the sunshine at the Freshers’ Fayres in Luton and Bedford.
The fayres were well worth a visit with hundreds of freebies and nearly 200 stalls across the two campuses. To help with the first daunting days at University, Freshers’ Angels, a specially trained team of student volunteers supplied by the Students’ Union (UBSU), were on hand to show new students the campus and help them to get to know the local area.
Students got the chance to sign up for a wide range of sports clubs and societies that the UBSU offers as well as finding out more about the support services the University provides. They also had the chance to meet a variety of local and national companies with a broad array of free merchandise.
The UBSU which organised the two Freshers’ Fayres, also arranged a mixture of evening entertainment across the two campuses to help students get to know each other and settle into their new towns. Free barbecues, comedy, karaoke and quiz nights were all on offer, as well as the Freshers’ Ball at Bedford Corn Exchange.
John Perkins, President of the Students’ Union, said: “We’ve put on a packed week of activities to ensure that our students’ first week at university is exciting, entertaining and is full of opportunities to meet new people.
“Freshers’ week is always a great opportunity for students to make new friends, settle into university life, sign up to sports teams and societies, and enjoy some great nights out. Everyone at the UBSU can’t wait for the year ahead and we welcome all the new and returning students.”
