Mon 10th October, 2011
Chief Nursing Officer for England Dame Christine Beasley is set to unveil a brand new Simulation Skills Centre at the University of Bedfordshire on Friday, 14 October.
The University has invested nearly £500,000 in the new facility which is designed to capture the patient journey and to provide students and qualified practitioners with the opportunity to develop their skills. Dame Christine will officially open the Centre and the equipment will be demonstrated by current nursing students.
Located at the University’s Butterfield campus just outside Luton, the Centre provides a state-of-the-art facility where students can practise the skills needed for safe and effective patient care.
Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE DL said: “We’re thrilled that Dame Christine Beasley is coming to open the new centre. Here at the University of Bedfordshire, we’re committed to investing in our students’ futures and this Simulation Skills Centre is just part of a £180m investment programme designed to support them.”
Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Science, Professor Michael Preston-Shoot, said: “The Centre builds on substantial investments for health care teaching and learning at Butterfield Park and Oxford House campus in Aylesbury - upwards £1 million – which reflects the University's long-term commitment to health care education and training.
“Our students have benefitted enormously from the simulation facilities at our Oxford House campus and we are delighted to be able to provide such a practical and valuable tool for our healthcare students at Butterfield Park.”
