Classmates reunited at Uni event

Fri 23rd September, 2011

Friends and classmates were reunited once more at a special event at the Putteridge Bury campus at the University of Bedfordshire recently.

The 45 former students and staff were from the Diploma in Geographical Techniques course, which started in 1967 when the University was known as Luton College of Technology.

Alumni Relations Manager Ian Nancollas said: “The reunion at Putteridge Bury gave the alumni time to rekindle friendships. Many travelled from afar, with one having come over from New Zealand.”

The guests were also able to see memorabilia such as photographs, scrapbooks and themed clothing to awaken memories of their time at the college.

The event was also attended by the University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Les Ebdon CBE DL, who said: “The determination of the former students to stay in contact was very touching, and it was very reassuring to see that the course had helped launch many successful careers.”

The diploma was designed to prepare students for careers as cartographers and many have gone on to have successful careers in local authorities and higher education.
