A University of Bedfordshire student has scored by securing a year long placement with Luton Town Football Club (LTFC).
Vivienne Long, who has completed two out of three years of her Public Relations course at the University, has just started her internship with the club as the new season kicks off.
She said: “I was really happy to get the placement because it will give me so much useful experience and, being from Luton myself, it is amazing to work with the local team.”
The PR student worked part-time at a local Sainsbury’s and it was in this role that she impressed the team at LTFC. Vivienne was in charge of organising the store’s Comic Relief activities and her persistence in trying to get the football team along was the thing that brought her to the attention of David Hoskins, Commercial Manager at the club.
He said: “Viv was very professional and persistent which is something we look for here at the club. She has settled in very well and I hope that her time spent here as part of my team will benefit both the club and her long term development.”
Vivienne will be undertaking a number of different responsibilities during her time at the club. She said: “In my first few weeks, I’ve already been really busy with event management and hospitality. It is hard work but I’m really enjoying it – it’s so varied.
Vivienne will be based at the club’s Luton ground for one year. She is looking into becoming a publicist and hopes that the internship will be the thing that sets her apart from everyone else in a competitive job market.
She said: “Right from the beginning of the course, the importance of hands-on experience was pushed by my tutors. The facilities there are fantastic and now that I’m learning from industry as well, I think I’ll be far more employable at the end of my time at University.”
