Postgraduate Art and Design students from the University of Bedfordshire showed off their hard work at the Hat Factory in Luton at the end of September.
The five Master of Arts students showcased their work, which was the culmination of a year long course (two years for part-time students) in which students are encouraged to pursue issues or interests that they feel strongly about through their art.
Head of Art and Design John Stephens said: “All five students have contributed to an exceptionally well-curated and professional show with work that engages with issues that are close to them and reflect their international backgrounds.”
One of the students, Edyta Pyotrowska from Poland, based her work around the Holocaust, with references to the concentration camp, Auschwitz in Poland.
“I was really surprised by the number of people that attended the show and I was grateful for the feedback I got from my friends and visitors. I am really pleased with the way it went and it has opened up more opportunities for me as an artist – I know what direction I want to go in,” said Edyta.
John added: “During the course, the students study texts by a range of critical writers in the arts and philosophy with the idea of using the ideas to question their practice and give it a new focus.
“Along the way, they are encouraged to consider issues that they feel strongly about and to consider ways in which to make art or develop designs in response. This show is a testament to that with ideas that they could take forward as professional artists or designers.”
