The University of Bedfordshire has scored top marks in a recent Nursing and Midwifery Council review.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council visited the University to look at the nursing and midwifery provision. In a system similar to the Ofsted method of assessment, healthcare training providers are checked regularly and graded on five categories.

The University scored ‘good’ in all the categories, which is the highest grade that can be received. The categories were resources, admissions and progression, practice learning, fitness for practice and quality assurance.

The University was also commended for its Student Service Improvement Projects. The projects are centred on an improvement each student identifies on their placements. The report states: “The introduction of a Service Improvement Project has been well received by practice partners and students. The departments are commended for the embedding of this initiative into theory and practice.”

The report also commented on the strong partnership links with local health authorities and the recent investment into development of clinical skills facilities at Aylesbury and Butterfield campuses.

Judith Chappell, Head of the University's Department of Acute Health Care, said: “We’re thrilled with the results. It is testament to the hard work of staff and students at the University and practice partners that we’ve achieved this fantastic set of results. The assessors commented on the commitment of our staff and said our students were a credit to us.”

Results will be published on the Nursing and Midwifery Council website later in the year.
