The University of Bedfordshire opened its doors to budding TV presenters at a recent open day event.
The University’s Media Performance department hosted the event at their state-of-the-art TV Studio at the Luton campus.
The open day focused on inviting prospective students to enrol on a new postgraduate course, Performing Before the Camera, which launches on Wednesday, 8 February.
Prospective students took the opportunity to take part in a filmed screen test, followed by advice and top tips from the University’s Media Performance lecturers.
Course Leader in Media Performance Dr Maria Wiener, who hosted the open day said: “There are some great opportunities out there to get into broadcasting. Over the past decade a multitude of new channels have been launched covering a wide variety of interests including news, sports, and children’s channels. These channels are accessible on terrestrial, Freeview, cable and satellite and online.
“All these channels need presenters and the University’s new postgraduate Performing Before the Camera course will prepare students for the expanding media opportunities in performance for the television, film and new media.”
The University’s Media Performance department has a growing reputation for developing TV presenting talent. Alumna Gemma Hunt has worked in television ever since graduating from Bedfordshire in 2003. She is now a BBC TV children’s presenter and returned to the University last year to share her experiences with future stars of the screen.
