Students from All Saints Academy in Dunstable got a taste of higher education when they visited the University of Bedfordshire recently.

The Year 9 students came to the University to take part in an Aim4Uni day, organised through the Access Partnership Programme (APP), which gave them the chance to explore and get a feel for what university life is really like.

Access Partnerships Support Officer Gabriella Gabriel said: “The students had a great time and we enjoyed welcoming them to the University. They found the day useful, fun and informative and it gave them a sense of what university life is really like. We plan to involve all Year 9 students from All Saints Academy in an Aim4Uni day or other APP activities with the academy over the next few weeks.”

The day started with a quiz about higher education and discussions on what goes on in the life of a student, followed by Student Survivor, an online animated character which responds to commands and teaches the students how to lead a balanced student life.

The students got a chance to have a look around the Luton campus, including the Students’ Union and the new £40m student accommodation at Fitzroy Court, before taking part in a T-shirt competition, where their efforts were judged on their design, presentation skills, group work and what they had learnt about university life.
