Dr Elly Philpott, Senior Research Fellow

Elly Philpott

Elly Philpott is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bedfordshire and a private business consultant. She has a BSc in Physical Science, a Masters in IT for Manufacture and a PhD in Concurrent Engineering and Design Ethos.
Elly has worked in international supply chain management in the telecommunications sector and with various aerospace and automotive OEMs to improve new product introduction processes. More recently, Elly has been engaged in the support of local SMEs.

In previous years she has managed regional innovation projects and consulted on projects with the aim of improving processes of knowledge exchange between universities and small businesses.

Her most recent projects have mapped innovation services provision in the East of Englan, developed an online innovation tool for SMEs See www.uni-east.ac.uk/innovation-test and facilitated knowledge exchange for companies in the environmental goods and services sector.

At an international level Elly has worked on FP7 projects ‘ Use and Diffuse' and ‘EECALink’.  Use and Diffuse explored best practice in dissemination and exploitation of research outcomes in health and ICT, the outcomes of which informed a handbook on European best practice in the area.  In EECALInk Elly delivered post doctoral seminars on engaging with business to students in Poland and the Czech Republic.  

Elly retains tutoring responsibilities in Strategic Technology Management, Project Management Tools and Techniques, Risk and Quality Management, Business Research Methods and ‘the project’ – a practice based learning unit on the MSc In Project management. 

Previous teaching responsibilities have included, Knowledge Management, Design Tools and Techniques, Lean supply and E-business for Women. Elly has examined 3 PhDs and is currently Director of Studies for a further 2 PhD students.

Her current research interests include university – SME relationships, implementation of innovation in small companies and virtual project teams, specifically Virtual Team Communities of Practice VTCoPs.  Elly welcomes MRes and PhD applications in her research and teaching areas.
