Dr Vincent Ong is a senior lecturer in Business Systems at the Business School of University of Bedfordshire. Vincent completed his MBA with Distinction in University of Leicester in 1998. He then completed his PhD in Information Systems in University of Luton in June 2006.
Vincent has been lecturing at the University’s Business School since 1999. He has substantial teaching experience across different levels in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He is the Unit/ Module Leader of five Business Information Systems related subjects. He has also been awarded in Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (PGCTHE).
His research initiative is directed largely toward the study and application of advanced and emerging information systems and technologies for supporting strategic information processing activities. His PhD work has revitalised executive information systems (EIS) study by taking into consideration of the current state of executive information and processing environment and the current emergence of the intelligent software agent, as a concept and a technology, for intelligence support.
His research interests include business intelligence systems with agent technology support, intelligent information systems and management, software agent and Internet technologies and applications.
Languages for eCommerce (from November 2004 to October 2007) – 51,750 EURO budget
Languages for eCommerce is a project funded by Leonardo da Vinci, a European Community programme. The project will help European SMEs and higher education learners by providing training in the area of e-Commerce thus helping to improve the competitiveness of European small businesses in the global commercial environment. The outcomes of this project include three e-learning modules and an ontology dictionary tool for e-commerce. Vincent is the Project Manager on behalf of the University responsible for the collaboration work with the 11 partners across Europe. He has participated in the design, development and implementation of the online eMarketing module and the moderation and evaluation of online courses and ontology dictionary tool.
WEBstep Programme (from September 2000 to December 2003)
WEBstep Programme is a European Social Fund project that helps SMEs develop and maintain business web pages, develop employees' Internet skills and exploit opportunities arising from e-commerce. Vincent was responsible for workshop scheduling of fellow teaching staff, revising teaching content and delivering a series of half-day workshops on web site planning, design and development. The programme had benefited more than 900 people from 700 companies across Bedfordshire in two and a half years.
