How to apply for a research degree

To apply for a research degree, please make sure you fulfill the entry requirements and then complete the online research degree application form and upload your supporting documents.

You should have a good honours degree (2:1 or above) or masters degree or equivalent in the relevant subject area.

International applicants should be aware of our research degree English language requirements

Business and Information Systems Research Centre staff are active in bidding for research grants from a portfolio of funding sources, such as the European Commissions, commercial organisations, the British Council, and HEFCE and have been successful in attracting funded research as principal applicants, or major partners. For example, BISC has been involved in the following projects:

Current projects

  • Supporting institutional decision making with an intelligent student engagement tracking system. 18 month project funded by JISC.
  • A Study of Contemporary Project Management: Tools and Techniques Used in Organisations. Funded by University of Bedfordshire 'Research Informed Teaching' programme.
  • Use&Diffuse - Support of dissemination and exploitation of results obtained in research projects realised with the participation of the SME sector. A two year project funded by EU FP7-SME-2007-3
  • DIDACTICOOP - Promoting entrepreneurial spirit among the youngsters. A two year development of innovation project funded by EC Leonardo Da Vinci programme.
  • MAPSME III - Maintenance of on-line innovation test @ www.i10.org.uk/services/innovationtest and further innovation audits. HEIF 3 funding.
  • Regional Manufacturing resource guide - Update to i10 manufacturing resource guide for east of England. i10, HEIF 2 surplus funding
  • M-ECVET-S - Modular ECVET System. A two year development of innovation project funded by EC Leonardo Da Vinci programme.

  • VEGNET - Enhancing agribusiness supply chain management with Internet Technologies. A three-year project funded by European Commission’s Euro Asia ICT program and co-ordinated by UBBS.
  • LFEC – Language For E-Commerce (e-learning system development for e-commerce in SMEs). A two-year pilot project funded by EC Leonardo Da Vinci programme.
  • DILBAC - Training needs studies of e-learning in banking and accounting. A pilot project funded by EC Leonardo Da Vinci programme.
  • MAPSME Plus - Mapping Manufacturing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Eastern region and Developing, Piloting and Evaluating a new process of engagement. The project is within the Regional Infrastructure for Innovation (RII) programme and a £4.5M HEFCE-funded initiative in the East of England.
  • TRIMAR - The design and development of a case-based on-line intelligent training system for the Internet marketing in SMEs. A three-year pilot project funded by EU Leonardo Da Vinci programme. Co-ordinated by UBBS.
  • FMIAS - Training needs identification and e-learning development in financial management for SMEs. A pilot project funded by EC Leonardo Da Vinci programme.
  • A study of e-learning adoption in China and the UK: British Council China Studies Grant.
  • T-ICT - Training ICT through e-Learning. A two-year pilot project funded by EU Leonardo Da Vinci programme.
  • Know-Tea - Web Based Knowledge Management System for the evaluation of novel tea drying process. Funded by Unilever Research and Development.
  • HAPPINESS - The design and development of a holistic method for individual training needs identification in ICT. A pilot project funded by EC Leonardo Da Vinci programme.
  • TRICTSME - Development of an intelligent web-based ICT training and advisory system for SME managers. A pilot project funded by EC Leonardo Da Vinci Programme and Co-ordinated by UBBS.
