How to apply for a research degree

To apply for a research degree, please make sure you fulfill the entry requirements and then complete the online research degree application form and upload your supporting documents.

You should have a good honours degree (2:1 or above) or masters degree or equivalent in the relevant subject area.

Robert Henderson

Bob Henderson

Robert (Bob) Henderson has a background in psychology, having completed an MSc with 1st Class Honours at the University of Auckland in 2001, and is a Human Factors Specialist. He lectures at the University of Auckland and consults to organisations on optimising safety, operational performance and company culture through the application of Human Factors in the workplace. He is a widely sought after trainer and international speaker.

Bob has over 3 decades of experience in leadership, management, training and research roles. He served as a Royal New Zealand Air Force officer for 22 years gaining experience in a wide variety of roles and was the commander of the Air Force long-range transport squadron, a unit with a global reach. He also has 15 years experience as an aircraft captain and manager for Air New Zealand. In addition he has been involved in the management of sports aviation for over 35 years and heads an international air sports group and is a member of the board of the world air sports federation, the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, based in Switzerland.

Bob has worked with the aviation community to develop leadership, safety and just culture programmes at the airline level and also at the ab initio training level. He has had consulting assignments with a major telecommunication company and in the rail transport industry introducing training programmes to improve their work practices and safety.

Bob is a member of a major research group at the University of Auckland Medical School investigating team processes and error reduction to enhance patient safety in the operating theatre.
