Research
Project management is increasingly being considered as a broad discipline applicable to any management of business change. Despite this, it is hardly used in organisations such as SMEs which are not directly involved in traditional project management industries such as IT or construction. Determine the main project management tools and techniques used in these SMEs and identify options for increased use. Project management is often considered as a methodical, systematic way of managing resources, time and money. The ‘soft skills’ element of project management is often given lesser importance and the metrics of cost and time take precedence. Research and identify a more multi-disciplinary approach to project management that can be applied to SMEs.
A key issue for public sector programme managers are which projects should be pursued. This is particularly important in the current economic climate where the Public Sector is being asked to make budget cuts. Research and identify the current issues linked to Public Sector project selection and possible methodologies that may be beneficial.
